Day 3 Extreme heat, fires, flash floods, earthquakes. What are we doing here?

Day 3 and we started off with a nice sleep in only to be woken by some very loud kids outside our door. We tried to get back to sleep after yelling at them but it wasn't to be so we went next door for our woefully bad continental breakfast which is really just cereal, juice, cold toast and really really sweet pastries. 7 more days of them to go yet, so thank god we didn't pay extra for the privelege.

We wandered out into the scorching heat at 10am as that's when Disney California Adventure opens and we realised the rumours are true; not many people go there. It's not hard to see why after spending no more than 10 minutes there. It just plain sucks. There's a distinct lack of rides and attractions, which in my opinion are kind of an important part of any amusement park. Maybe they should try getting rid of some of the huge number of food places and build more rides instead.

Without doubt the best ride has to be the Grizzly River Rapids and being such a hot day we were grateful to get a soaking to cool us down. After that, I managed to drag Sarah onto the little wild mouse rollercoaster and I think she nearly soiled herself. Perhaps luckily for us we completely avoided feeling the 4.7 magnitude earthquake which happened while we were on the coaster.

We wandered over to the Screamin coaster, which is the only really big decent ride in the park only to find that it wasn't working. D'oh. But we settled for a spin on the ferris wheel instead. Weeeeee, wasn't that a thrill-a-minute. After an hour in the park we were pretty much tired out from so much excitement so we headed back to the river rapids to cool down again before heading back to the hotel. Unfortunately, with the coaster not working, and the rapids out of action due to the quake, the queue was 50 miles long. It was due to start up again any minute so we hung around in the line. 40 minutes later we got another soaking. Yay.

Time for lunch so we headed out to Denny's where Sarah had a chicken salady type thing and I had a spicy queso chicken washed down with the most disgusting bright red fruit punch I've ever tasted. Back to the room for an afternoon nap.......

We thought we'd give California Adventure another go at 7pm in the off chance that they'd built some new rides while we'd been snoozing. Alas it wasn't to be. The crowds were still fairly non-existant so there was hardly any waiting time for the river rapids which we went on twice again.

The Screamin coaster still wasn't working and at 8.30ish they were just testing it, so with only half an hour till the park closed we thought we might give it a miss until we come back again. Gee I'm so looking forward to getting back there again. What a fun place!

We had time for one more ride before leaving so we checked out the Soarin Over California ride which is a hang glide simulator over all different parts of California. We found ourselves pleasantly surprised as it was actually very good.

9pm and it's back to Denny's for dinner. I think that's about the 28th time we've eaten there in the last 3 days. (It's only 30 seconds walk from our hotel). There's nothing left on the menu we haven't tried. Except burgers, I'm holding out for as long as I can without having one but it's getting more and more difficult each day. We'll probably head back there about midnight for a banana split.

I suppose that should do for today. I wonder what fun we can get up to tomorrow. Surely it can't beat the pure excitement that is California Adventure.

Check out the photos from today as well.
